I've been using these trays for about 3 months so far and have not noticed any chemical odor on the tray or the ice cubes. The cubes do have to be pushed out of the tray one by one, and placing the filled trays into the freezer can be challenging if you don't put a small baking sheet or Tupperware lid under them.
That being said, even though I have a ice maker with ice through the door, I still use these trays because the cubes look cooler, and more importantly, they last significantly longer than my ice makers "cubes" (more like wedges). If you're willing to spend some time getting them into the freezer and out of the trays then these are well worth what you pay.

Love these trays.
I don't know why people had a hard time getting the ice released. Simply bend them from both sides and flip it upside down and you are done. A little extra pat will also help. They are very flexible and are likely to never break (unlike plastic trays)
I didn't have any issues with smells. Yes they shake a little when you put them in the fridge but overall they are stable for a silicon product.
The only drawback I found was the cubes take longer to freeze than my plastic trays. They also take longer if you stack them. I'm not sure why this happens but I'm guessing is because the size of the cubes. The cubes by the way are stunning and look beautiful with any glassware. If you like creating beautiful cocktails these will be perfect.

Like other reviewers, I adored the cubes that came out of these trays. However, after a couple of months, the cubes started tasting funny. I blamed the water, I blamed my freezer, but after reading these reviews I've come to the same conclusion as many others: sadly, the ice cube trays are the cause of the bad taste. I've run them through the dishwasher many times and that doesn't fix the problem.
I've tried looking on the Tovolo website for care instructions, but to no avail. I think I will need to just toss these like everyone else.

I thought something was wrong with my teeth ie a crown had come loose or whatever. I cannot get this taste out of my mouth. I am so angry i ordered these without reading the reviews.
In the trash. I have silicone trays from both Ikea and Crate & B and they are fine.
Waste of time and money.

I liked the look and feel of these trays. I also enjoyed the nice shape of the cubes.
BUT I had to throw these out because the cubes were ruining my drinks. I thought it might be my tap water at first and then I tried several cleaning techniques attempting to remove the strange flavor in the ice cube.
Nothing worked.
I was shocked that the flavor even overwhelmed strong flavored drinks like iced coffee. But maybe it was something that came out when my tap water was frozen... or could it be something in the air in my freezer?
But the truth became incredibly clear when I had some (normally delicious) spring water and Tovolo-made cubes at my parents house in Vermont.
I immediately recognized that terrible smell and flavor. That is not the water I grew up drinking... I could identify that taste anywhere. When I asked my parents about the strange flavor they noticed it too.
Indeed it's those yucky Tovolo ice cube trays.
Please read the other reviewers who independently had the same experience with their trays.
BUYERS BEWARE!!! Don't buy these they'll ruin your drinks.
